Living in the Blacktown area, I think it’s safe to say that there aren’t many (if any) places to go if you want to have a nice meal with girlfriends. The places in this post aren’t exactly “local” to Blacktown. But they are within 30 minutes drive, traffic and parking is not an issue, and they take bookings. Perfect for groups.
The Union (Penrith)
My mum told me about The Union and I was pleasantly surprised that something with good ambience and with good food is close to home. The drive to Penrith is easy and so is parking. The YW girls and I wanted to have a girls night but we were all too nana to head to the city. We ordered 14 sharing plates. Most were small, but adequate. Our top picks were the mussels, the polenta, the grilled chicken and the hummus and prosciutto plate. 2L of sangria also made the meal more fun. The caramel crème dessert was so good, we wanted to order more.. but had to behave ourselves.
Wildpear Café (Dural)
My girl group (which includes Danny, of course!) celebrated Mon’s birthday with brunch at Wildpear Café. Contrary to the name, there are no pears served in this café. Nonetheless, all the breakfast options on the menu sounded so appetising and everyone had trouble deciding what to get. Bacon or haloumi? Savoury or sweet? Poached eggs or baked eggs? In the end, I ended up with two breakfast dishes because how can you pick between savoury and sweet? Sensible people just choose one. I’m not very sensible I guess. The Spanish baked eggs which included chorizo, sugo tomatoes and parmesan was pretty deece. My favourite part about baked eggs is how the hot little pan keeps your food warm til the end of your meal. My breakfast dessert was brioche French toast with caramelised banana, blueberries and yoghurt, deece too. Wildpear is a bit pricey but you get a good amount of food.
Grano (Wetherill Park)
I took Mon to Grano for a birthday dinner. The place was so cute! We had the gnocchi, four cheese pizza and four meats pizza. The gnocchi was avs, the cheese pizza was deece (but the blue cheese was really strong! be warned) and the meat pizza was also deece. Perfectly thin crust! We also had dessert which consisted of vanilla fried oreo and white chocolate mousse. Both were deece, but too rich. I suggest to share one dessert between two.
